I have evaluated Microsoft Office 2003 Marathi carefully and in detail. That somebody should have taken this initiative was necessary. City-bred new generation might not feel Marathi software to be a necessity perhaps, but the initiative is appropriate if computer is to spread to schools across the villages. Not only the efforts are in keeping with the times, it is the need of the times. Hence, I heartily welcome it.

It is a welcome step that through Project Bhasha initiative, Microsoft is bringing its international software such Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2003 into Indian languages. Trust that Microsoft brings with its name will be valuable.

Microsoft Office 2003 has many attractive features. Besides Marathi Interface and Indic sort order, the charts and graphs in Marathi will be important for newspapers. Exchanging Marathi text and database across different applications and on internet will be easy due to Unicode based storage in Microsoft Office 2003.

Currently spelling and grammar are a “free verse” in Marathi. Standardization and quality stand challenged. I feel this trend will be reversed; will get right direction and momentum. For this, thesaurus is most necessary, just as dictionary is. These features will ensure that benefits from Microsoft Office 2003 Marathi are consolidated.

We shall certainly support the efforts of creating awareness about Microsoft Office 2003 Marathi among people and institutions.
