G.B. Newalkar alias Bhausaheb Newalkar
Our Patron and the Chairman Emeritus of Maharashtra Minerals Group of Companies Shri. G.B. Newalkar alias Bhausaheb Newalkar passed away on 5th October 2008.
As a freedom fighter, he was actively involved in “1942 Quit India Movement”. After independence, he left active politics and concentrated on constructive work for the country. This led to the establishment of 1st joint-sector institution in India; “Maharashtra Minerals Corporation Limited”. Through this venture, Bhausaheb went to the remotest and the most under-developed parts of Maharashtra, where besides mining he focused on the upliftment of entire region.
Simultaneously, he was the Chairman of Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation(MSSIDC) for 12 years and was also on the Board of Directors of Bank of Baroda and Central Bank of India.
His contribution to small scale industries and banking was fundamental.
His another venture National Institute of Motivational and Institutional Development (NIMID) was the pioneering institute for nurturing ‘entrepreneurship’.
His life and works will continue to inspire Aksharmaya for years to come.
